1. This picture, along with no sense of belonging, gives me the idea that the girl is not just sad, but gives an even deeper meaning. I think the picture should not give the idea of sadness through the depressed girl, but through the negative space and contrast. There is a lot of darkness with light to show what the image is, but just enough to darken your mood. I like how there is no color in this image, galvanizing the image. What the photographer is saying is that what goes on today is not just in movies, but is reality. The world has problems, even America, and the photographer did an excellent job of showing this. The girl is sad for a reason. The reason is a problem, and may be different between different people. I get the feeling of sorrow and sympathy when I look at this picture. The picture gets me thinking, "what's going on here?", and by body language, I have the idea that she is either truly sad or maybe even sorry for a previous action she made. Judging from the angel of the camera, I think that the girl in the picture may jump off the scaffold in attempt to "escape" her problems. It is a good image because it makes a viewer wonder what is going to happen next. Also, it represents what happens to people when they are sad, and possibly crazy things they will do escape it. The way the image is dark, gives a darker meaning to the picture, it gives you the sense that hope is non-existant in the picture.

2. The photographer, like the previous image, took out the color, and gave the woman a frown. Judging by her body language, I can make an inference that she is lost because there is complete nothing behind her. Even the sleeping baby does not look happy. A lot of factors portray a lost feeling in the middle of nowhere, and sense of being past lost. The image can be looked at by many ways, but what stood out to me the most was the contrast of colors. When a picture is colorful, I almost always get the sense of happiness, likewise, a dark photograph gives me the sense of sorrow or anger. The photographer might be taking a picture of something that goes beyond its meaning. While in this picture they are lost, it might try to say that we are lost. I know my parents are usually lost in work, and cant spend time with family sometimes, that might tie into it. The woman being lost, represents other people being lost who might not even realize it. Seeing this picture, got me confused at first because I could not understand what was going on. But, after a while, I got the idea of the problems that one could go through that would eventually lead to their own despair. The angle of the picture makes me think that the background was intended to be shown as undesirable land and how the woman was in the middle of it. The lighting, gave me the feeling that there was not anything happy about the picture. As if the actually picture was black ad white. This just helps to show the significance of the image for the underlying meanings of it. The space in the background shows nothing, where the color and frowning of the woman (and the background) make you sad.

3. This picture at first sight made me confused. It got me thinking, "what's going on here? Why are these people the focal point if they're just crossing a street?". But I then got the idea that maybe they were up to something. They look nervous, timid, as if they want to escape something. I am no saying they did anything, but maybe someone or something is out for them? Maybe someone is mad at them. The mood of the image is neutral, it is colored, and there really is not any people either happy nor sad. I think the photographer is trying to tell the viewer to stay alert, there is trouble everywhere. Maybe they are the bad ones, but maybe not? Maybe they are just innocent bystanders just trying to cross, being watched by someone in the nearby buildings. I do not know how I feel about the image, but if I was actually in the picture, I might feel scared. The neighborhood that they live in there does not look safe. It looks rundown and even a little poor. The angle that this was shot from, in the middle of the road, at a vantage point, overlooking the people, and some of the street makes me think that he is of power. The photographer might think that they are above everyone else, overlooking others. The lighting, more so the color of the clouds and sky give the picture an ominous look. The clouds are a little dark, though the light is bright. The significance if the image is great because it does prove a point. The point is to watch your back because something might be there. A great deal of time, and a right moment was used to achieve this because the picture was taken at a precise time and the people in the road may have had to waited to been taken a picture of.

4. A happy picture for the most part is displayed here. The woman is smiling, looking away from the camera. Posing, but seeming as if she's minding her own business. There is no negative space, other then her jacket which is black., which also gives a good though. What threw me off, however, was why was the picture colorless. It, like the other pictures were sad, had no color but with a happy tone. It is a happy picture, but it does make me think a bit about what really is going on. The picture must not be showing everything if she is happy, with a gloomy setting. The photographer is portraying a sense of happiness but with a slight twist to it. Maybe while you are happy, someone else is sad about the same thing. I have the feeling of comfort because there does not appear to be any problems here, so there should not be anything to worry about. I think that although the picture was taken at an angle where it would be a portrait, the picture suggests that there is something going off, causing the woman to become distracted and look away from the camera. The lighting also is an issue because if the woman is happy, then why is there all this darkness? There is something going on, and the woman is trying to cover it up by smiling. This idea was achieved when the woman looked away from the camera and smiled, and the picture was colorless.

5. A dark, ominous feeling approached me when I first looked at the image. The man standing up looks like the man laying down, possibly showing his alternative side. It might be someone who had died, looking down at his body in a spiritual, out of body life. This makes me think that the man is looking down on himself, angry, scornfully looking down at himself with no second wishes about what happened to his body. The photographer is showing how some people who died had too much hate in them, even for themselves, and could not teach them to be happy. I feel upset about this because people who have not learned to live die mad, and have hate for others. The picture was taken, as if it was just a normal view from someone standing nearby, who is not really there. The lighting gives a serious tone, and a sad one as well. The light used and the frowning of the man help give the picture its feeling.
